We don’t usually pay attention to the everyday objects we see all the time, they’re no more important to us than the use we get from them. For eleven months of the year, the fir tree-shaped object hanging in our car is no more than an air freshener; and a sock on the washing line is just a sock hung out to dry. But as Christmas draws near, all these details acquire a special significance.
