Description

Winter: neighborhood bar. It's early afternoon. The bar is nearly empty. Atop one small table is a full pint of Guinness. Out the window it's snowing. Springtime: The bar is half full – including a company softball team. Another day: The bar is packed. Many of the patrons are standing, including some women who are at a bachelorette party. Summertime: A 28 year-old soldier wearing U.S. Army fatigues enters the bar. The soldier looks over at the female bartender, who is genuinely surprised to see him. This silent, shared exchange speaks volumes. She then nods to the pint on the table. The soldier grabs the pint. He suddenly understands the bartender's steadfast vigil. Just then, a patron stands up and lifts up his Guinness. A second Guinness drinker does the same. We see the impact this is having on the soldier. He is clearly moved. His friends approach (pints in hand). Our soldier then looks back at the bartender, and they exchange one final look that cements his gratitude and her adoration. It's an uplifting moment. The choices we make reveal the true nature of our character.
