HEAR THE MUSIC, a tourism campaign for the USA, invited musicians to reimagine the disco classic “Boogie Shoes” by K.C. and the Sunshine Band, drawing on the music traditions native to their cities.

The music video for Detroit, Michigan features musician Omar Aragones. Detroit is the birthplace of Motown, and Aragones gives “Boogie Shoes” a catchy melody soaring with soulful, sexy grit.

The city documentary for Jackson, Mississippi features Grammy-nominated musician Cedric Burnside. Burnside shares the regional roots of Hill Country Blues, visiting a juke joint run by the legendary Jimmy “Duck” Holmes.

Finally, in the 22-minute episode, we travel to Detroit, Michigan; Jackson, Mississippi; West Hollywood, California; Las Vegas, Nevada; and New Orleans, Louisiana. The result? “Boogie Shoes” comes to life as 5 uniquely American genres: Motown, Hill Country Blues, Garage Rock, Vintage Rock ‘n’ Roll, and Jazz.
