Idea

We are on the edge of the next great media transformation. Monumental advancements in technology and profound shifts in consumer behavior are driving change. In close collaboration with our partners, we are bringing immersive media experiences to fans around the globe giving them enhanced viewing experiences and providing broadcasters with new storytelling opportunities.

Fans want to watch games on their own terms. They expect to be able to watch anything, anytime, on any screen. Intel’s focus is on giving fans the experience they want across all platforms: mobile, VR, PC and more. We effort is focused on our immersive media experiences like our one-of-a-kind volumetric capture technology. Intel® True View puts fans in the middle of the action—allowing those following on live TV or reliving the action on digital to view plays from any angle, experience a play through a player’s eyes and get deeper analysis from the broadcasters.

Strategy

Our end-to-end system captures content from dozens of cameras around the venue, processes massive amounts of data, adds production services that is delivered to rights’ holders that they distribute to fans. This new content allows our partners to tell richer stories to fans with new views from the game such as 360 angles or views from the player on the field or court. The highlights or game experiences created also bring new sponsorship revenue opportunities to our partners.

We work in collaboration with partners across the industry including broadcasters, leagues, and teams to bring the vision to life. The immersive content is delivered to fans through linear TV broadcasts, mobile, web and HMD’s in virtual reality. Fans are looking to do more than simply watch a passive view of the game – they want it to be interactive, immersive, personalized and focused on social interactions.

Execution

Our end-to-end system captures content from cameras around the venue, processes massive amounts of data, adds production services that is delivered to rights’ holders that they distribute to fans. The immersive content is delivered to fans through linear TV broadcasts, mobile, web and HMD’s in virtual reality. Fans are looking to be interactive, immersive, personalized and focused on social interactions.

We work with sports leagues, broadcasters and teams around the world to create and produce immersive media experiences. Some examples include partnering with 13 NFL teams, the NBA & Turner Sports, NCAA, MLB, LaLiga, Arsenal, Liverpool F.C. and Manchester City to deliver immersive experiences.

We are creating and producing the game with innovative “volumetric video”, that allows us to create views from the play that you wouldn’t be able to get from one physical camera person.

Most recently in March, Emirates Stadium in London was outfitted with Intel True View technology to capture Arsenal’s Premier League home matches in volumetric.

True View highlights were used over a dozen times in Emirates Stadium to show fans at the match the unique angles they wouldn’t otherwise experience.

16 True View highlights have been used on Arsenal’s social media since launch and have generated an incremental lift in fan engagement vs. standard video. True View highlights posted to Arsenal’s Instagram have generated an amazing 77% lift in engagement (vs. other video) while the combined engagement across all channels was 39% higher.

In 2018, Intel Sports pushed 830 True View clips to broadcast across all partners, receiving an estimated 2.2B views worldwide.  Our reach increases threefold to over 7B viewers when considering social and digital distribution platforms. 

Outcome

Since launching with Arsenal, Intel True View highlights have been seen during live match broadcasts, on social media, in the Arsenal mobile app, and Arsenal.com, successfully driving fan engagement and offering a storytelling tool for the broadcaster.
