Description

On Sunday, November 8, Johnsonville and Uber teamed up to bring Chicago the Sausage Nonnas—the world’s most elite sausage delivery service.

In these teaser films, three real Italian grandmas traveled to the Windy City in tiny homes hauled by Uber. They cooked, cleaned and were interviewed about everything sausage while on the road. Over the course of the films, each Nonna prepared her own Italian specialty (despite difficult cooking conditions) before instructing viewers on exactly how to order a Sausage Nonna through the Uber app.

The campaign itself featured three portrait films documenting each Nonna’s respective road trip to Chicago, a custom-built integration into the Uber app and a recap film showcasing how much the Windy City loves Italian grandmas, tiny houses and delicious sausage.

Execution

Casting the Sausage Nonnas was not easy.

After two failed attempts at finding authentic Nonnas through a traditional casting agency, we took to the streets of Chicago and started looking in places where real Italian grandmas hang out—restaurants, social clubs, senior centers, Italian-ice shops, etc.

Each potential Nonna was then put through the gauntlet and was rigorously evaluated on categories such as culinary skill, sass, charm and, most importantly, love of sausage. After reviewing tons of Italian grandmas, we struck gold.

Antonia, Lidia and Gina proved themselves worthy of the title "Sausage Nonnas," and went on to bring sausage, smiles and hugs to the people of Chicago.
