Description

A creature is reaching for oranges in a tree. It stretches too far and falls to the ground. Two oranges fall onto the keys of a piano and catch the attention of the creature. We reveal that the creature is, Rynke, orangutan, and brand ambassador for the juice brand Rynkeby.

Rynke approaches the piano, curiously he drops an orange onto the keys, and he is surprised with the sound it makes. Exploring the instrument, he tries using his hands as well. The sound attracts a pelican, which wants to join in. It starts making loud and distracting birdcalls, eventually frustrating Rynke, who is trying to play the piano. Rynke picks up an orange and squeezes fresh orange juice into his mouth. And suddenly the birdcall becomes an inspiration to Rynke. He starts playing, using the pelican sounds to make the beat from the Usher track 'Yeah!', and together they groove.

Execution

For the Rynkeby film, we decided against using motion capture, because we wanted the orangutan's movement to be as ape-like as possible. In order to obtain that, we made a detailed live action animatic with an actor and used this to edit the film. Our animators then interpreted and translated these human characteristics and adapted them to the physiology of the orangutan.

All the background plates and elements were shot on location in Costa Rica.

The talented team at The Mill built the orangutan and pelican using CGI and composited everything together in Nuke. The final film was then graded at The Mill in London.
