Description
To show how KFC is made, we capitalized on the growing internet trend of tiny, mini foods by opening the world’s smallest KFC franchise, where people could come get mini KFC $5 Fill Ups.
We opened up the shop in Portland, Oregon and partnered with YouTube tiny food influencer Bistro Miniature to promote our pop-up by create a step-by-step video showing how to cook mini KFC.
Execution
We first announced the stunt through our partnership with Bistro Miniature, who created a step-by-step video showing how to make all of the components of a KFC $5 Fill Up—in miniature, of course. The video also doubled as an announcement of our pop-up mini KFC, which gave us additional scale through their audience.
We then set up shop in Portland, Oregon and used KFC’s social channels to drive people there, including a play-by-play Instagram story. True to the Colonel’s attention to detail and relentless quality control, the World’s Smallest KFC was a scale model of a real KFC, down to the soda fountain, chairs, and countertops. Even the air vents on the roof were accurate.
After the event, we quickly created a recap video that we promoted in social and shared with PR.
Outcome
With lines down the block, people couldn’t get enough of our tiny KFC meals. But it wasn’t just Portland that was enamored with the world’s smallest KFC.
The stunt generated over 136M earned impressions, and our Bistro Miniature video has garnering over 2M views to date. Pretty big for something so small!
