Description
Pepsi, a brand that has always used music for generations decided to bring them back. We created “Long live las plenas”, a music project that brought back “La Plena” to document how Puerto Ricans were living post Hurricane María, and lift the country’s spirit the best way Pepsi could, through music. This music project was shared for all the country to enjoy, and to use it as a coping mechanism inviting them to dance their troubles away.
Execution
Cucco Peña, a world-renowned music composer wrote all plenas inspired on true events and news related to Puerto Rican’s life after María. But because we wanted everyone to learn these songs, we created one music lyric video for each plena. For this, we also brought back an art style. During the last century, famous Puerto Rican artists like Rafael Tufiño interpreted the plena’s in art, mostly in serigraphs and posters. “Long Live Las Plenas" music project brought back this custom and style, and used it to craft a music lyric video for each new plena using the same artistic style. 8 music lyric videos were created and shared on our social media platforms and website. The music video’s objective was invite consumers to sing along on their Christmas festivities and dance their troubles away. That way, Pepsi refreshed their Christmas playlist, with refreshing new plenas to lift up their spirit!
Outcome
More than 500,000 downloads, streams and shares. Once again, Pepsi became part of pop culture and invited Puerto Ricans to dance their troubles away.
