Description
The day after the launch of the Tesla, Skoda congratulated Elon Musk and issued him a daunting challenge on Twitter: to arrive on Mars before him.
On the 14th February, Skoda film the arrival of their Skoda Superb model arriving on Mars. That is Mars, the tiny town in the Loire area of France.
Execution
The operation began with a challenge posted on Twitter and was accompanied by a teaser video showing the future “take-off” of the Skoda.
Then a second post announced the mission’s success, with a video showing the Skoda Superb’s take-off, the journey and its arrival on Mars, surrounded by a cheering crowd of real Martians, including the Mayor herself.
Outcome
With a low budget, this campaign generated outstanding PR results on an international scale: 440 million PR impressions in just 5 days and 515K€ in earned media.
