Description

The M&M'S made a movie! Well, actually they tried to make a movie. The iconic M&M'S candies ask filmgoers to turn off their cellphones and respect fellow patrons in the audience in “Trailer,” a mock blockbuster action-movie trailer. The 40-second PSA is the first time all six characters have appeared in a single spot, and is sure to educate as well as entertain.

Execution

The production company was given the challenge of casting authentic, filmic characters to convince Superbowl viewers that they were watching a scene from a real Russian mob movie. They started by casting Rade Serbedzija (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1, X-Men: First Class and Mission: Impossible II) as the mobster, who is an inimitable, internationally recognizable film & TV star known for his portrayals of imposing figures on both sides of the law. To support him, the directors utilized local casting in Bucharest, Romania, where they were able to find actors who were worthy of the dark, epic feature was trying to portray. This authenticity was key to making the joke work when it was revealed that the hostage was Peanut, the iconic, talking Yellow M&M. Bringing together a classic character actor, local talent, and an animated M&M may seem strange, but they all come together for a stunning effect in “Dostavka (Delivery).”
