Description

Famed for their iconic haircuts, the look of the modern day football player has become a weapon.

To celebrate this originality, and to bring fans closer to the players they idolize, we created the Nike Barbershop app during Euro 2012.

Fans uploaded their picture and tried on a gallery of hairstyles; the Neymar, the Ramos and the Balotelli to name a few.

The most popular looks - chosen via social media - were invited to visit one of seven actual Nike Barbershops to get their style cut for real.

Execution

The Nike Barbershop app offered fans the opportunity to create some of the funniest profile pictures of the summer. At the same time, the physical barbershops became hot spots for fans to watch the sport, buy the gear or get their style cut for real.

Nike reconciled style and substance in a single experience that went from the web to real-life, once again showing how the brand goes beyond performance gear and into the heart of popular culture.

Outcome

During the two weeks of the Euros, more than 50,000 individual hairstyles were made through the Nike Barbershop app.

Over 4 million people watched the campaign teaser film, staring enigmatic Italian striker Mario Balotelli. This proved so popular it was picked up by Italian TV at the half-time of the Euro finals - reaching 21 million people.
