Background
The holidays are a season when you want to make your loved ones happy and show that you really understand them, but giving gifts is always a bit of a gamble: Are they really going to like it? Do you really know them as well as you think? The Georgia Lottery wanted to position their Holiday Scratchers as the perfect holiday gift but needed to stand out during a time when so many brands are vying for consumers' attention.
Execution
We all know the holidays are a time for spreading cheer, but deep down it’s really a time when we all just want to be seen and loved by our friends. So, when you get the same dumb gift from everyone…it can sometimes feel like no one sees you at all.
The "Nutcracker” is a charming story about how Holiday Scratchers from the Georgia Lottery will always be a great thing to give to others, because a chance at winning millions truly is the gift everyone wants to get.
Outcome
With another year of robust sales of Holiday Scratchers, the "Nutcracker" spot enabled the Georgia Lottery to uphold the brand's perception of the scratchers as the surprisingly thoughtful gift anyone would be happy to receive.
