Background
Melanoma is caused by exposure to the sun’s UV rays.
Sunscreen is a good first defense.
But to practice comprehensive sun safety, people also need to perform regular self skin-exams.
With deadly melanoma on the rise in Scandinavia, this audience needed a dramatic demonstration to wake them up to the importance of this life-saving step.
Execution
This film is about a self skin-exam, but unlike any you’ve ever seen.
It follows two eyes—detached from their sockets—slithering across the skin in search for melanoma.
The eyes travel far and wide, including hard-to-see places on the skin.
On their journey, they inspect a number of moles.
Eventually, the two eyes come together in the lower back region and spot a cancerous melanoma.
The shock of seeing the melanoma sends them skittering back to their sockets.
The shock continues as the man realizes what his eyes have seen.
