We needed to quickly tell the backstory of our main character Camilla’s late husband, while also highlighting how their shared love of food and opera could relate to her new love—a dog. The adaptation of Giacomo Puccini’s ‘Musetta’s Waltz’ is an audible demonstration of how Camilla experiences love. From the opera’s initial fade that highlights the loss of her husband, the needle dropping on the record player to signify a new relationship with her dog, the needle skipping on the record to highlight the dog’s struggle with weight—even Camilla’s satisfied humming at the end of the film highlights how her love has found a way to adapt and grow to find peace and harmony.
