Execution
Just before the State of the Union address in January 2014, Google+ issued a call for questions for the President. From among these, nine people were selected from across the United States to ask their question of the President in a live Google+ Hangout. The President offered answers to each. Google Maps and search trend graphics added context to the conversations and highlighted the regional flavor of the "road trip" campaign.
A digital media campaign featuring homepage takeovers on CNN.com and WashingtonPost.com, as well as YouTube Tru-View / Google Display Network ads, drove people to watch this unprecedented event.
Outcome
-- Google+ was showcased as a democratizing platform that can start important conversations -- even with the most powerful person in the United States
-- 1.5 million views (promo video and Hangout viewership)
-- 34,000 questions asked
-- #POTUSRoadTrip trended nationally on G+ and Twitter
-- Hundreds of press articles and clips including USA Today, MSNBC, Fox News, Wall Street Journal, Mashable
- Nine participants had an unforgettable experience: "Thanks again for changing my life,” - Rob Page (Portland, Maine)
