Background

India is home to one of the biggest film industries in the world. To showcase iPhone 14 Pro’s camera capabilities and establish it as a movie-grade filmmaking tool, Apple worked with veteran director Vishal Bhardwaj to create a Bollywood-scale short film, shot entirely on iPhone 14 Pro.

Stunning locations, grand sets, and impeccable choreography come together in this fast-paced fantasy-musical set to 5 original songs. A true testament that iPhone can help bring even the most ambitious of creative visions to life.

Execution

Music is a critical component of Bollywood films. Often garnering more fame than the films themselves, music plays a pivotal part in Indian cinema and local culture. “Fursat” is a 30-minute film that brings together some of the best musical talent in the industry in a fast-paced, fantasy-musical adventure.

Bhardwaj, with his mastery over music crafted a narrative driven by five original songs of different genres. The songs become the backbone of this modern storytelling, and while they move the story forward, they also give the audience a peek into the state of mind of the characters without the need for dialogue.

He partnered with his long-time musical collaborator, lyricist Gulzar, to bring soulful expressions through high poetry with deep-rooted messaging. Regarded as one of India’s most prolific poets, Gulzar’s beautifully written songs were brought alive by India’s top vocalists, Sukhwinder Singh and Kailash Kher to create magic with music.

Outcome

“Fursat” was launched like a Bollywood blockbuster on 03rd February, 2023. The film was released on on Disney+ Hotstar (India’s leading VOD platform), and on Apple’s India and US YouTube channels. Accompanying the film were :60 and :30 sec trailers and a behind the scenes film. A nation-wide OOH takeover established the film’s credibility just like any other big movie release. “Fursat” seeped further into culture with contextual placements across movie review, ticketing sites and helped further pique interest in the film.

The film’s original music added another dimension of Bollywood authenticity and was launched on Spotify, Amazon Music, Resso, YouTube, Jio Saavn, Wynk, and Instagram. Apple Music hosted a dedicated Superroom featuring curated playlists of the singers as well as additional information about the soundtracks.
