Description
Our idea was to reinvent the classic jukebox with the help of Spotify Api & image recognition technology. We created a jukebox that can detect the "band T shirt" a person is wearing, and automatically play a music by that band from Spotify.
Execution
"We created the True Fan Jukebox, a jukebox that responds to your love of music. Instead of accepting money and letting you pick a song, this jukebox looks for band t-shirts and automatically plays music based on what you're wearing. If you're a true fan, wearing the t-shirt of your favorite band or musician, the True Fan Jukebox will play a song for you using Spotify.
To accomplish this, we made a custom image recognition program that can detect any band t-shirt with close to 100% accuracy. The user simply presses a button to activate a camera, the t-shirt is scanned, and within seconds music will start playing.
The Jukebox was placed inside the Spotify House for 5 days during SXSW, alongside 50 sample t-shirts people could try on to test the jukebox. We completed the effect with a small tiled dancefloor and a custom True Fan Jukebox neon sign."
Outcome
The installation became a huge crowd-pleaser at SXSW, with more than 19,700 people visiting the Spotify House and experiencing the installation. The True Fan Jukebox successfully showcased Spotify's thought leadership in both the tech innovation and music entertainment space.
