Execution

To tap into the dream of travelling to New Zealand, the directors wanted the film craft to capture what dreams feel like. They used the scene transitions to capture the way, in a dream, you move from one place to another without ever seeming to travel.

Much of the pacing of the scenes was refined in pre - at the climax, there's a strong build from the jetboat, to the spa, to the Kiwi bird, to the transition into night. They felt it was important to layer all of these beats into one smooth sequence that builds to the end - not unlike how our dreams go too wide places and then suddenly, at a high point, we wake. The directors also built on the surreal imagery in the scripts, bringing a few more incongruous Kiwi-centric images to the mix.
