Execution

Never before Virtual Reality, Sound Design, Scent system, AC and Kinect using real-time GFX techniques have been used with the extra layer of an winch operated wire rig for flying users.

Complexity of the technology:

The Oculus Rift and the Kinect: Combining the Kinect Camera with the Oculus Rift allowed to add responsive hands into the live rendered 3D experience. This added a natural layer of interactivity. When the user moved their hands the hands within the experience moved as well. User felt their way around in the worlds of 5GUM, altering their environments through movement.

3D Sound: Audio is specialised for three-dimensional space for an immersive experience. Razor Tiamat headphones were used to support 7.1. audio and process audio depending on head orientation with custom filters. To give vibrational environment feedback sound was specifically designed for each stage of the experience by a 1000 watt subwoofer.

Helmet: The helmet was designed to house audio and visual technologies as well as scent deliveries – went through numerous prototypes and trials. Harness: The harness is similar in style to hat of a parachute and is attached to the user as they enter the container. They are then hooked to wire rig which is designed to programmatically hoist users into the air midway through the experience.

Social Sharing: Webcams set up in and around the installation capture the full user experience. A custom video edit is automatically sent to each to share across all social channels. Keeping all the systems connected and creating a viable process to recover from potential changes that inevitably happen in any real-world installation was a complex job.

Outcome

The Influencer posts promoted the content and gained outstanding earned media results: 6.677.392 reached contacts within the target group. A video view overdelivery of 77% and 1.5 Mill interactions (views, likes, comments, shares).

5GUM Facebook had a increase of 400+ in July and strong participation rate in content related posts.

PR activities achieved excellent coverage in online and traditional publications with an overall reach of 1.705.475.843 visits.
