Description

Millions of Americans believe in zombies, vampires, and Santa Claus. Yet one out of four Americans still don’t believe in climate change.

This absurd contradiction gave birth to the Climate League - a group of fictional characters with the ambitious mission of fighting skepticism around the reality of the climate crisis.

Because despite how many people do believe in mythical creatures, one thing is certain: climate change is real, and it is compromising everyone’s future.

Execution

We launched a fully integrated campaign on Earth Day 2018, consisting of print, OOH, and digital platforms.

OOH ads in iconic locations like Time Square in New York impacted large audiences on climate change reality.

Print executions that linked the absurd contradiction between climate change deniers and fictional characters’ people believe in were published in newspapers of the main areas affected by climate change.

Our site www.theclimateleague.com provided data and knowledge to convert climate skeptics and taught users how to refute frequent arguments made against climate change.

Social media showcased live The Climate League members forced to leave their natural habitat because of the consequences of climate change. Additionally social media polls gathered extensive data which was repurposed and leveraged in creative communication.

Additionally we started a change.org petition where we asked the US secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, to bring science standards education to all school curriculums.

Outcome

The Climate League left an unexpected impact.

The campaign earned over 19 million impressions in 24 hours, mostly through organic influencers.

Celebrities such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Jim Carrey, Michael E. Mann, Leslie Grace, among others, actively engaged in the #ClimateChangeIsReal conversation.

The Climate League campaign was showcased in prominent US industry sites, such as: Campaign US, PR Week, Ad Forum and Little Black Book.

Additionally, the change.org petition to secretary of education Betsy Davos met its launch goal and it´s still growing towards fulfilling its final objective of bringing climate education into all school curriculums in the US.
