Execution
We distributed beer coasters and posters in more than 100 clubs and bars throughout the country. And we published print ads in all main Flemish newspapers. By scanning beer coasters and print ads with our specially designed app, people get to see the 3 winning bands of ‘The New Recruits’ performing in 3D on their bar counter, kitchen table, couch, … A TV commercial with one of Studio Brussels reporters explained how to use the app. And before and after radio time of one of the 3 winning bands, a radio jingle announced the app.
Outcome
We’ve created a virtual stage for the 3 winning bands of ‘The New Recruits’, a contest for young musicians by Belgian radio station Studio Brussels. Sure we could have just given them free radio airtime, which we also did, but by building 150.000 augmented reality stages in more than 100 clubs and bars throughout the country, we gave these young bands a much bigger audience. With only 1 mobile application, 3 Kinect cameras and 150.000 beer coasters, we offered them 150.000 stages, where the audience can take a look around. Literally. This makes Studio Brussels the biggest stage builder of all radio stations in the world. And it got these 3 young bands so much free exposure that their chances of becoming really famous got 150.000 times bigger.
Only in the first week after the launch, already 3100 people downloaded the app.
