Description

The development of this product involved the active participation of many tattoo artists who presented to us their improvised methods of learning to tattoo. The answers we obtained were key in the development and launch of an innovative product, capable of definitely transforming the way that artists learn to tattoo.

Execution

The domestic market for products for tattoo artists is primarily focused on the advanced segment (i.e. established practitioners). Between this and other reasons, it can be a huge challenge for beginning tattoo artists to become licensed and established. Searching for surfaces that resemble human skin, it is not uncommon to find beginners in this art form practicing on fruit, such as oranges and bananas, or even on animal skin, such as chickens and pigs. In the process of researching and creating this book, we discovered that there are materials, in polymer and silicone, which simulate human skin. The solution was to use this material to create a sketchbook specifically for tattoo artists. In addition to pages that simulate human skin, each one was given a specially printed section with the most commonly tattooed parts of the human body.

The sketchbooks are:

Hardcover with “Skinbook” in engraved lettering

Outcome

With the distribution of advance copies, we increased the Tattoo Art Magazine’s exposure. In addition to thousands of view on Facebook and articles in leading tattoo publications, the project increased the demand for the material in tattoo studios impacted by the action and boosted sales of the magazine in the month of the launch.
