Background

[Background]

Fireworks festivals become memories of summer for many Japanese. NTT docomo has supported these events through stress-free connections.

Many Japanese look forward to the fireworks festivals held every summer. Over 1 million gather to see the more than 20,000 fireworks set off. Japan’s largest telecommunications company, NTT docomo, has supported the communication network at these fireworks festivals all over Japan with mobile base stations to prevent network disturbance at the crowded venues.

[Issues and Challenges]

More than 50 fireworks festivals were cancelled or postponed in the summer of 2017 due to typhoons and bad weather. Many people lost their chance to make memories of the summer.

NTT docomo has been connecting people at numerous fireworks festivals up to now. That is why they wanted to offer a memorable summer experience that people would love to see.

Execution

A revolutionary, world's first printing technology was used.

Step 1: a huge poster of a totally black sky

Step 2: when pictures were taken using flash,

Step 3: fireworks appeared and lit up the sky

Fireworks from 47 prefectures can be displayed freely.

It was a system to bring up the fireworks festivals around Japan,

where docomo provides reinforced networks.
