Background

Juntas Imparables is the first ever Nike Women’s "Just Do It" campaign in Mexico, where the challenges of being a woman are no obstacle for those who decide to achieve their goals through sport. It’s a movement that is contagious, emotional, and irreverent, looking to inspire all women to see sport as fun, community building ventures, in which they can achieve their goals and demonstrate that when women unite, they are unstoppable.

The film features cameos from top female Mexican athletes, including Nayeli Rangel, Mariana Juárez, Paola Morán, Alexa Moreno, and Casandra Ascencio.

Juntas Imparables also coincided with a call to action. From September 10 through October 19, 2018, Mexican women could register a team of four to log workout minutes through the Nike Training Club (NTC) App, Nike Run Club (NRC), or in face-to-face sessions at the Nike Women MX House. The winning team received a one-year Nike sponsorship.

Execution

Through the spot's direction, the commercial explores traffic as a visual metaphor for overcoming CDMX's struggle with female equality and empowerment. In particular, the stunt with the soccer ball adds an unexpected brutality to the character of the businesswoman, which nicely disrupts the pace as well as conventional notions of femininity.

Now, actualizing those traffic jams on the closed-off streets of Mexico City was a titanic task. For the director, a major challenge was navigating the combination of narrative, action, celebrities, and a limited shooting schedule. Nevertheless, it was accomplished beautifully.
