Background

Isaac Lock's mocumentary follows Victoria Beckham on the day of Vogue's big shoot to celebrate the anniversary of her professional emergence onto the fashion scene. There was no brief from the client, only the guarantee that Victoria Beckham was booked for the job.

Idea

It's a 'behind-the-scenes' approach, interviewing Editor-in-Chief Edward Enninful and Fashion Director Venetia Scott, who explain their vision for the shoot - consideration, elegance, restraint - key words underscoring the values of the Victoria Beckham brand. However, Victoria Beckham misunderstands the brief, and thinks the shoot is celebrating her, from her legendary Spice Girl outfits to the infamous Vera Wang dress she wore at her wedding.

Strategy

The strategy behind this film was to show a side to Victoria Beckham which is every bit as funny and self-deprecating as the world has often suggested she is not. The film also challenges the criticism Vogue has received, for being stuffy and out of touch with the internet age of fashion, instead proving it can poke fun at fashion industry clichés. By using a mocumentary approach, the film introduces the comedic element in a way that respects the high fashion aesthetic of both Vogue and Victoria Beckham.

Execution

Working with a very tight budget, we shot the film in a photographic studio, making use of the space as a set whilst ensuring beautiful lighting. Victoria Beckham gave us access to an incredible archive of past outfits and props, adding authenticity and glamour to the film.

Outcome

The outcome is a smash hit success, with the video reaching more than five thousand views after just hours of posting. The film now has over 1 million views, thousands of likes and has inspired the designer to continue the series, with Isaac Lock directing another mocumentary for the launch of her YouTube channel.
