The Volvo In Every Car app lets competitive cars speak to the techno virtues of Volvo. App users can just zap the badges of competitive cars on the street, and at auto show competitors’ booths, and the app will detect all of the Volvo World-1st inventions inside that car.

This promotion turned the cars of Volvo’s top luxury competitors, BMW, Lexus, Audi, Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz, to name a few, into Volvo spokesmodels. It was launched in March and April at the 2012 Geneva and Beijing International Auto Shows, respectively.

The Volvo In Every Car app effectively turned other auto show carmakers’ booths into Volvo booths. Luxury competitors’ cars themselves became a new media outlet extolling Volvo’s technological leadership.

It is being used by consumers on the streets around the world, as well at all international auto shows. It has consumers and the press alike looking at the latest competitive luxury models and steering the conversation back to Volvo.

Outcome

The Volvo X-Ray app is being used in major auto shows around the world, helping attendees to discover the latest Volvo techno breakthroughs. A new tool innovative enough in it’s own right to attract crowds to the Volvo stands, in the busy three-ring-circus of the auto show environment.

702,014 visitors and 11,680 journalists from 80 countries downloaded Volvo X-Ray in Volvo’s both in Geneva. In Beijing, upwards of 900,000 visitors got to experience it as well.

The Volvo X-Ray app accomplished two goals effectively. First, as an innovative consumer tool for discovering the latest Volvo techno breakthroughs. And second, as a way to stand out in the competitive auto show environment. Where competitive luxury auto brands rely on flash, Volvo used its technological substance to stand out. X-ray vision is no longer science fiction. It’s a glimpse of the future.
