Background
For Vogue's Original Shorts, the most exciting new directors working in film and video today collaborate with our favorite performers to create supermodern, miniature movies.
To promote February's issue, the writer/director was tasked with creating an engaging short branded film around cover subject Reese Witherspoon.
Idea
Vogue’s new original video pulls back the curtain on Vogue’s February cover star Reese Witherspoon's most private thoughts, as well as those of everyone around her.
Strategy
What if we could read Reese Witherspoon’s mind—and what if she could read ours? Vogue’s new original video pulls back the curtain on Vogue’s February cover star’s most private thoughts, as well as those of everyone around her. The setting is a video shoot for Vogue, and Witherspoon’s smiling assistant is anxious that the script is (much) too long. “I wanna be your best friend, I wanna be your best friend,” she thinks, apologetically handing it over. Reese makes a face—did she just hear something? Meanwhile, the set tech working nearby is having thoughts of his own. What follows is an excruciatingly funny encounter between a fan and a star—where the subtext is text, and absolutely nothing
Execution
The videos were released on Vogue's website and YouTube channel, and promoted on their social media.
Outcome
The video has passed 220,000 views in 4 months.
