Description
Burger King’s mascot, “The King”, doesn’t speak, but to celebrate National American Sign Language (ASL) Day, he broke his silence. He went to a Burger King in Washington DC adjacent to the largest Deaf University in the United States, and surprised the Deaf community speaking for the first time(using ASL) with them to get heir help creating the official sign for “Whopper”.
The restaurant was transformed with every word changed into to ASL. As Deaf people came in we had cameras in place filming their reactions and interactions with the King as they suggested and discussed loads of different signs with him. We also got their impressions about the initiative and their thoughts on Sign language and inclusion.
From the footage we cut together, we released a completely silent online film of the event to celebrate National ASL Day, ask for more Whopper sign suggestions` and promote inclusion.
