For the first time ever, we live streamed a concert in Times Square (on 8 video screens), the YouTube homepage, in banners on the biggest music sites and on mobile devices – all at the same time.YouTube – We live streamed our Coldplay concert on YouTube and into the YouTube Masthead.Times Square - We simulcast on 8 video screens, turning the most high-trafficked place on the planet into our concert venue – the first and only time it’s been done.Live Banners - In another first, we worked with Rolling Stone, Spin, Billboard, Pandora and other popular music sites to stream our concert live into their banners.
Shazam - Through a unique partnership, we targeted fans already listening to Coldplay to watch the concert live on their mobile.
Outcome
•Made history with 1st ever live concert simulcast in Times Square and 1st ever live stream banners on premiere music sites (e.g. Billboard, RollingStone). Click through rate was 5x the industry standard.
•The concert was the most viewed live stream in YouTube’s history garnering over 19M views, 200K watched in Times Square.
•Streaming banners on RollingStone, Spin and Billboard generated 20M impressions. Engagement rate was 5x the average.
•PR – The Sun, ABC News, CBS.com, Mashable, Yahoo, Technorati.
•Sir Paul McCartney was so jealous, he contacted YouTube to do the same for his next concert.
