Write a short summary of what happens in the film
This film tells the well-known story of Cinderella in a very different way: backwards. Cinderella starts as a very rich woman who’s happily married to a prince. By the end, she’s a kitchen servant, living with her wicked stepmother and stepsisters. All of which demonstrates that when things are reversed (like when you reverse a car), they don’t always end happily. Which is why the Vauxhall Astra has a reverse camera as standard…
Tell the jury about type(s) of animation used and summarise any relevant challenges or techniques.
Our film is almost entirely handmade, with nearly 100% of it created with stop-motion. All the characters, props and sets are real small-scale objects made specifically for the film. In fact, the only CGI elements are in the lip-syncing sequences. Even elements like the fog, something that would usually be created in CGI, was created with stop-motion – something that took several days to perfect and film. Movement of the fog was shaped for each frame, with painstaking detail given to its motion and form - an approach that was taken to every moving element. The set was built to allow a long backwards track, reflecting the backwards motion of the story, and in itself took many days to design and build. Overall, it was an exhaustive yet rewarding labour of love – one that took thousands of hours to craft.
