Hovering over the city at 605 feet, this monument beckons you to look up. Which is why we made a website that did exactly the same thing. It’s a site that scrolls up. The site is a self-guided journey that allows visitors to learn about the Space Needle and explore the surrounding city while wandering through clouds and flying past seaplanes. You can even send a message from the top! But just because the building stops at 605 feet doesn’t mean the website has to. Rocket across new expanses and into the stars—it’s the 'Space' Needle after all.

Outcome

The number of new, unique visitors to the site has increased 40% since launch.

Guests are much more engaged in the experience as bounce rates have dropped 30% since the launch.

By utilizing modern web technologies that scale across all devices, we've made the site accessible for everyone from 10 to 90-year olds, by including three intuitive ways to navigate the site.

Strategy

Legacy and wonder has attracted visitors to the Space Needle since the 60’s, but that legacy had gone stale and was in need of reinvigoration.

The website is the first point of contact for most visitors deciding what to do with their vacation time. However, the official Space Needle site was dull and disorganized, hardly a reflection of the beautiful experience, quirky brand, and ode to exploration that the architecture represents.

Our insight: for potential tourists to be excited about the Needle, the website had to be as monumental as the Needle itself.

To do this, we mirrored the behavior of 'looking and traveling up' from the base of the Space Needle, and built that into the design and functionality of the site itself, creating a website that engages, educates, amuses, and inspires.
