Execution

“Greatness Awaits” campaign kicked-off a film loaded with interactive easter eggs. “Bid for Greatness” gave gamers a chance to win gaming memorabilia with trophies earned on PS Network. We launched PS4 with the “Perfect Day” film. “First to Greatness” encouraged gamers to be the first to accomplish different challenges. We reinforced the idea across title launches like Killzone and Gran Turismo.

Outcome

In 7 months, “Greatness Awaits” was integrated across all PlayStation channels. The campaign resulted in over 729 million video views and 2.2 million comments on YouTube alone. According to IGN, PS4 had the 'Largest Console Launch in History'. PlayStation is now back on top, proving to gamers everywhere, greatness truly does await.

Strategy

Seven years after its troubled PS3 launch, PlayStation was facing the most important console launch in the most critical year of the brand’s history. How would we turn the tide? By flying in the face of the industry trend toward entertainment over gaming, and launching a single-minded idea that would speak to the brand’s legacy - and directly to gamers hearts. “Greatness Awaits” was born from the insight that gamers go through transformative experiences when they game. Their experiences are so epic because they’ve earned greatness. We kicked-off the campaign with a film loaded with interactive easter eggs called “Gateways to Greatness”. Throughout the online video, clickable hotspots took gamers into these gateways, unlocking exclusive never before seen content. There was even a bespoke currency conversion platform that allowed gamers to use trophies they earned on PlayStation Network to bid on real items, giving their digital currency real world value.
