We found that traditional security systems cause people anxiety – they are overly complex, unintuitive, and can be costly. Using these insights, we set out to create an individualized alarm system that does what consumers really need it to: deter the bad guys and make it easy on the good guys.

Nest Secure delivers where conventional options fall short by providing comprehensive security, while remaining delightful to live with and use every day. The brains of the system is Nest Guard, which houses the alarm, keypad, and motion sensor. Users have the option to easily arm and disarm the system with a Nest Tag or passcode, while the Nest Detect sensors looks out for your doors, windows, and rooms. The Nest app lets you know what’s happening from anywhere, and if you forget to set the alarm, you can get a reminder alert and arm it right from your phone.

One unique innovation in the system is Nest Detect – a tiny sensor that can detect both motion and when a door or window has been opened, which requires most alarms two sensors to do. Nest Guard continually monitors signals and determines when to sound the alarm based on whether or not the system is armed.

Arming and disarming is the primary interaction people have with an alarm system and has historically been a source of frustration. One of the primary goals of Nest Secure was to simplify this process by allowing people to use a tag on their key ring to turn the system on and off, or arm and disarm remotely using the Nest app. Nest can even let the last person to leave home know when the system isn’t armed, and let them arm it directly from the notification.

Another unique aspect of Nest Guard is the use of light to guide the user experience. Buttons light up only when the function they perform is relevant to the situation, and a light ring illuminates to serve as a countdown timer that lets the user know how much time remains before the system arms or sounds the alarm.
