Our logo is the Nations Flag, and because raising its flag is the pinnacle of every nation, we wanted to capture that sense of pride. The idea was to somehow transform the flag of all nations into the trophy of all nations. For the first time in a UEFA competition, the trophy is the embodiment of the logo. Raising it is also raising the flag of this competition. The tournament will be broadcasted all over the world, and the trophy will bring new meaning to the Finals and a new kind of celebration for the winning team.
Execution
To make the flag a viable trophy-like object, we had to design a rolled-up version that could be easily held, with sleek lines. Made entirely of silver, and with the colourful pattern inside, the process of constructing this flag turned into a trophy was one of the most challenging of all UEFA trophies. New techniques had to be developed to carefully craft this unprecedented piece.
Outcome
The trophy was presented during the group stage draw, on the 24th of January 2018. The event was broadcasted and streamed live through hundreds of channels and websites around the world. The winner of the competition will take this trophy home in June 2019.
Synopsis
UEFA NATIONS LEAGUE is a new competition between 55 national teams. Its brand is made up of a modular system that includes colours from all the participating countries’ flags. These colours inspired the logo: a flag representing all flags. The brand needed a trophy that could strengthen this idea.
