OVERVIEW

Background

The PayPal All Together Gathering, A December to Remember was a global gathering that took place live across eight time-zone specific programmes, 24 hours, 52 cities and 13 countries.

In a year where connectivity and engagement levels were plummeting, the platform provided a platform for PayPal employees to connect and engage on a global level.

The objectives were to;

• Deliver a virtual global event that allowed 26,000 employees to gather to celebrate the end of the year together

• Achieve high employee engagement

• Design a program of diversity and cultural substance

• Design an accessible platform that was easy for attendees to navigate, interact and engage with

• Create an interactive program that appealed to all ages, interests and cultures

• Collaborate with each individual local PayPal office

• Work with the best global talent to ensure a high production value

Idea

In a year of challenging and trying times we were tasked with creating a world first, innovative entertaining event that brought PayPal employees together as one from across the globe for the very first time. We created the platform which provided an outlet for PayPal employees to enjoy a global event, a festival-like experience from the safety and comfort of their own homes.

We combined art, food, entertainment, music, dance, spectacle and made it an experience for online viewers to remember. A neon theme was brought to life and we encapsulated a real life event on a virtual setting.

The worldwide cultural experiences displayed across multiple stages, giving participants the opportunity to learn a new skill on the workshop stage, experience the dance floor and take photos in the photo booth. Employees were able to chat to each other globally in the mingle room.

Strategy

The main aim of this project was to unite the world of PayPal while it is necessary to be apart.

•Advance Engagement Activities - We created participative activities for employees to be ‘stars of the show’ which included the Lip Sync Challenge, Kids and Pest Host program, Eurovision, Olympics and Modelling Competition

•Live Interaction - Employees were able to join the mainstage at the live show to participate in interactive games. Live workshops were designed for employees to participate in such as cookery, dance, art and craft, magic, circus, and baking

•Platform Engagement -To encourage participation, the platform had multiples stages which included the mainstage, activities stage, dancefloor, employee mingle, chat box.

•A communications campaign was designed & delivered to promote the event to gain maximum participation. We collaborated with each local site leader and carried out an employee survey to get an insight into the local objectives.

Execution

We onboarded the best cultural and innovative talent globally to achieve a credible & impactful creative program. Over 60 events were pre-recorded, programmed and produced which included music, dance, spectacle. A communications campaign was designed & delivered to promote the event to gain maximum participation. A toolkit was created which involved bespoke event graphics, timetables, program information & calendar invites all designed by our graphic design team.

The timeline for this event was from October to going live across 10th/11th of December.

To cater for a dynamic event of this scale, We developed its own bespoke platform. A huge amount of research was put into the development and design to create an accessible and easily navigable platform that had a vibrant and edgy design.

The event went live from 3 main studios in Dublin, New York and Puerto Rico.

52 Cities, 8 party groups, 13 timezones, over 10,000 unique users.

Outcome

PayPal described this as "A moment in time for our Global Community". An incredible 24 hours where all PayPal employees from all over the world came together for one night as one team, one office, one big All Together Gathering. A gathering like no other, to celebrate all of the PayPal employees who have worked so hard during a challenging year. An event which also supported hundreds of artists, performers and local businesses across the world in a time when they truly needed support. Employees got to witness multiple events for across the world and reunite and connect with their friends and counterparts across the 52 PayPal offices.
