Description

The idea tells the story of an old man in search for something he left behind, as a metaphor for how you can find candy, gum, and other ephemera from your childhood at Atomic Candy.

Execution

A 2-minute, 30-second film that takes the viewer on the journey of an old man visiting his old, now abandoned, school. The twist ending answers the purpose of the journey.

It was shot and produced in-house by the agency on a shoestring budget (under USD 5K) with a 5-person crew, on location in an abandoned school in Detroit. The actor was a 92-year-old practicing attorney and Detroit native, who’d never acted before. The film ran full-length exclusively in movie theaters in Denton, Texas, in the days leading up to September 30, 2017–National Chewing Gum Day.

Outcome

The film won critical acclaim internationally and locally. Atomic Candy expanded its gum offering to meet a surge in demand. They continue to be one of the most sought-after locations in Denton Square at every important cultural event. At Halloween alone, they saw a 5% surge in sales.
