Background

The brief was to create a series of three films that expressively and uniquely explored music and sound design. To brim with personality and articulate the UI, design and visual conceptual explorations in a surprising, magical, creative and seamless way. The goal was to uncover new creative avenues, creating a captivating sonic representation of their cutting-edge design, UI and concept work. Creating something familiar but like nothing you've ever heard. Breaking expectations with music and sound. All helping to push the Google Design brand ethos and promote their creative and forward thinking approach to design across their brand.

Execution

We completed an intense phase of sonic exploration and creative development, trying out lots of ideas for many scenes. Mirroring the visual designer's processes, our aim was to uncover new creative avenues, creating a captivating sonic representation of their cutting-edge design, UI and concept work.

Driven and inspired by the motion, edit & design, we experimented with different sound palettes and musical ideas and asked questions like, "What if it sounded like this?" "What happens if we do this instead?" “Does it have to sound like that?” “Is it music or sound design, or both, or neither?” Our goal was to surprise and delight the viewer and ourselves when we listened back.

We recorded lots of unique foley sounds, textures and gestures and paired these with unique musical arrangements, instruments and articulations. Sonic and visual pairings that are not often heard, lateral thinking side by side with super satisfying moments.
