Description
In this epic film, narrated by the unmistakeable Christopher Fairbanks, the director uses a cleverly tricked ‘one take’ tracking shot piece as we follow our narrator through a quite literal forest of history, as man’s bond with cooked meat is forged. The film begins with a flaming tree, before our narrator guides us past weathered cavemen, medieval warriors, Baroque revellers and Napoleonic soldiers, poetically extolling the proud and visceral history of man, meat and fire. Arriving at a modern-day barbeque with his motley crew of historical figures at his back, they invade the scene, ridding it of salads, dips and bread and reasserting the importance of meat to a modern-day Dad tending the barbeque. It’s ambitious, cinematic and visually rich, with a knowing sense of humour and a memorable central performance.
