Description

To build excitement for Apple’s revolutionary streaming service, ?Music, “History of Sound” chronicles the evolution of recorded sound. From Edison’s phonograph, to the digital revolution, every great advancement in music was brought to life. Shot in only four days in Los Angeles, an obsessive attention to historical detail was employed, ensuring each scene felt as authentic as possible. Set design and wardrobe were scrutinized until every nuance (down to grains of dust) was historically accurate. Period-correct cinematography – simple, deliberate shots evolving into complicated, modern movement – also ensured each scene felt as if pulled from our memories. Adding to the film’s richness, youth, sexual, and equality movements played out in each frame, transforming it into something far greater than a mere history lesson. Directed by John Hillcoat, the film proved that great advancements in music are both technical and cultural revolutions.
