Description

A unique set of Samsung pins inspired by symbols of Rio 2016 Olympic Games was designed to ignite Olympic fever. The pins were distributed through an innovative combination of both online interaction and offline engagement.

Thirty brightly colored pins were created. The full set was mounted on a pin board, enhancing the beauty and desirability of the collection. There were two kinds of pins: 22 were themed on Olympic sports. The other eight ‘special’ pins were adorned with classic symbols of Brazil.

To obtain a sports-themed pin, people needed to visit one of the seven Galaxy Studios in Brazil and participate in the exciting product experiences. To obtain a special pin, however, people had to complete one of the special missions posted on social media. They could then take their proof of completion to one of the special designated Galaxy Studios in Rio de Janeiro or Sao Paolo.

Execution

The challenge ran from 30th July until 21st August, 2016.

At seven Galaxy Studios, visitors who participated in more than two experiences received a sports-themed pin. Four special-missions were launched, one every week, and there were two special pin days for special pins.

-1st mission (30th July – 4th August): Share personal stories about the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.

-2nd mission (5th – 9th August): Take a picture of any Samsung billboard and share it.

-3rd mission (12th – 14th August): Capture a GIF image published on Samsung Brazil’s social media channels and share it.

-4th mission (15th – 21st August): Post a picture of a Samsung Pin collection, and tag a friend.

-Special pin day for a coconut-tree pin (6th) / a flip-flop pin (16th).

Lucky Draw (18th – 21st August): People who completed the full collection of 30 pins could register for lucky draw and receive a special pin box.

Outcome

- All 300,000 pins (including 16,128 special pins) have now been successfully distributed

- There were 861 lucky draw registrations between 18th – 21st, August, which means that at least 861 people collected the full set of 30 pins. A special pin box was presented to all lucky draw registrants

- The Samsung Pin Challenge drew an estimated 166,000* fans to the Galaxy Studios

- Over the duration of the Pin Challenge (30th July – 21st August), eight posts uploaded by Samsung on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter gained more than 428,000 likes and 78,864,703 impressions.

- 13 lucky draw prizes were awarded, including tickets to the next Olympic destination (Tokyo), a Galaxy S7 Olympic Games edition and accessories (battery pack, wireless charge pad), a Gear VR, a Gear IconX and Level On headset.
