Background
Writing collaboratively with the creators of Bafta award winning BBC series ‘People Just Do Nothing’, we developed a storyline that fitted seamlessly with the character Chabuddy G - a likable, hapless entrepreneur for whom things always seem to go wrong.
Chabuddy’s most iconic failing from the BBC series is ‘Peanut Dust’, a batch of peanut flavoured dust he acquired after a manufacturing defect at a peanut factory. We used ‘Peanut Dust’ to show how being seen on Google with AdWords gives any business the opportunity to sell more, no matter what they sell.
The films launched in the weeks leading up to the BBC show’s final season and coincided with an important period where media agency budgets are allocated. Our films help maked Search feel vital, current and cool again, appealing to the Search industry as well as the huge cult following that the BBC series has acquired.
Execution
Episode 1 - Hacking Google (103)
Meet Chabuddy G, a self-confessed ‘internet expert’ and ‘ultrapaneer’. He invites us into his internet cabin café, home to his burgeoning business ‘Peanut Dust Enterprises”. Chabuddy is convinced he has hacked Google when he buys a few AdWords and gets his website on the first page of results. Thanks to his internet wizardry the once failed product ‘Peanut Dust’ (bags of peanut flavoured dust he acquired after a manufacturing defect in a peanut factory) is now sitting pretty at the top of Google and the orders have started to roll in. It was so easy, he’s sure whatever he’s done can’t be legal.
