Description
The objective behind the campaign was to put the proliferation of small arms back on the political agenda. There are currently 500 million small arms in circulation around the world–that’s one for every ten people on earth. Roughly one quarter of these weapons are in the hands of people under the age of 18. They are the catalyst for 300,000 deaths each year, 80% of which are women and children. Ultimately the National Coalition For Gun Control wants the Australian Government to ban semi-automatic handguns. We needed a an idea that captured the interest of the media and the general public to ensure that the proliferation of small arms was put back on the political agenda. The idea developed was a online calendar that was available to be downloaded from the National Coalition For Gun Controls website. The online calendar featured famous individuals who had been killed as a result of gun violence.
