Background

In Japan, office hours are long and hard. Office workers know they need to eat better, exercise more and change their office lifestyle, but it’s not so easy.

In response, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare recommended adding a simple goal to the office routine: Walk 10,000 steps a day!But on the average, Japanese currently walk only 70% of the recommended steps. They needed an incentive to walk more.

Execution

Launched in August 2016, the service availability broke the 1,000 vending machine mark in about half a year. Currently the service network is expanding with the goal of providing its advantages to companies nationwide. The deployment of the service is starting with companies that would like to improve the health of their employees and office workplaces that are worried about employee health, but in the future, Suntory aims at making this service available from all their vending machines in offices throughout Japan. Through this project, Suntory hopes to make even a small contribution to bettering the overall health of Japanese office workers.
