Description

This event takes place 1km out at sea and the only way to spectate was from the website. It had to allow for daily updates on the event's status and provide a facility for people to view the event. The website is designed as a ratty old fisherman's ledger with a hi-tech twist, which creates a dynamic tension. Its cutting edge technology, raw conceptual strength, speed and functionality make it appealing to wave and web surfers alike. Because of the up-in-the-air and out-to-sea nature of the Big Wave Africa Event, the fisherman's journal created the perfect format for daily updates leading up to the event as well as hourly updates on the day. The simplicity of design allowed the speed and functionality required. The video's downloads and pictures serve to maintain interest during the window period leading up to the event and provides the space to offer an interactive multimedia perspective on the day of the event. In order to allow spectators a feel apart of the action on the day, the site offered live updates from a base camp half way up the Sentinel Hill, with M-Web capturing visuals via an Ethernet Wireless LAN and transmitting a real-time stream of images on the screen. Basically, the Big Wave Africa site is fast, conceptual and functional.
