Description

This film was used online to promote an exhibition titled ‘FutureSelf‘ that was held at MADE, an interdisciplinary art space in Berlin. At the heart of this project was a cage that mirrors movement in light and creates a three dimensional “living“ sculpture from the composite gestures of those who surround it. The installation was brought to life by two dancers and their illuminated alter egos. It overcomes the boundaries between the natural and the artificial, and shows both sides in pure harmony.

Execution

The production pipeline for this piece was based on a classic CG approach. Autodesk Softimage was used for modeling, shading and animation. We used SolidAngle's Arnold as our primary renderer and Digital Fusion for Compositing. The workflow was pretty straight forward, including a coarse animatic, standard keyframe animation, no big surprises. We used a bit of ICE for the 'wire moth'.
