Copywriters hone their skills by constantly writing. To get that fact across, and make them proud of it, we decided to create an iconic visual consisting of a pencil, symbol of the copywriter’s art, in the form of a sparkling diamond. The big chunky diamond is intended to suggest the oomph of the copy honored by the award.
Outcome
The new icon design makes this previously abstruse copywriting award instantly recognizable, and gives people aspiring to win it a clear vision of their goal.
Whereas until now a different designer produced the visual for each year’s awards, the new design is to remain in use so it becomes well established. The icon has therefore been crafted with the intention that it will serve as a permanent symbol of the awards’ tradition, not merely be used fleetingly for a single year.
