Description

"Android is an open platform for everyone, not for a selected group of people."

Like the kanji character '?(hito)' = 'human' represents, the tree is a combination of parts supporting each other, representing the 'human society'.

On the 'society', over 600 Android phones are placed, each with a unique individual inside. The diverse range of the Android phones and the people inside them exemplifies ‘diversity’.The diverse phones and people are connected through the concept of 'time'; the only property which is given equally and without prejudice to every living things. The individuals inside the phones are designed like a pendulum on a clock ticking time to celebrate the miracle and happiness of sharing the same moment on this Earth.

Having the design theme “Diversity & Connectedness”, this digital installation brings the experience that Android's technology plays a precious role in realizing the happiness of ‘being different’ and ‘being connected’.

Execution

Reflecting society into forests or trees is a Japanese spiritual nature, which is combined with the cultural idea of sharing time. The wooden stools which form the tree are taken over from the prestigious TORAFU ARCHITECTS’s idea of Japanese modern design symbolizing “Recovery from the Tohoku earthquake”. Like the kanji character ‘?(hito)’ = ‘human’ represents, the stools supports each other and form the trees.

We placed 600+ various people into each 600+ various Androids. People are designed as a pendulum on a clock, and like the leaves breeze, they tick the precious ‘present’ time.By and by, people change their shape into a snowflake, spiraling down as if they are dancing a waltz. The system enables people not only to watch and enjoy, but also to experience becoming 'a member of the snowflake inside the phone'.

Outcome

This digital installation is designed to bring to life the brand promise of "Be together. Not the same" by connecting the experience with Android phones.

We have succeeded to significantly raise the brand image and increase product purchase intention. The YouTube video of the installation received more than million views.
