Description

As the official mobile of the 2012 London Olympic Games, our challenge was to increase awareness of Samsung Galaxy SIII during the games and engage users online. So we created the World’s First TweetOlympics. Participants had to register with one of two teams (White/Blue) and out-tweet one another over 3 weekly rounds. All they had to do was tweet “Things They Could Do with Galaxy SIII” followed by their team’s hash-tag (#TweetOlympicsWhite/#TweetOlympicsBlue). This campaign spread rapidly through Blogs, Facebook and Twitter, leading many to our micro/mobile site and igniting fierce competition - staying true to the spirit of the games.

Execution

So we created TweetOlympics - a first-of-its-kind socially competitive sport. By utilising one of the fastest growing social platforms in the Middle East, we wanted to not just get people talking about Galaxy SIII, but also to motivate interaction, start trending topics and encourage social sharing.

Outcome

This social media campaign spread rapidly through Print, Online Banners, Blogs, Facebook and Twitter - igniting fierce competition. In the end, over 91,600 tweets were recorded, with more than 111,960 page views. The campaign reached over 1.86 million twitter users and contributed to the sales of over 20 million Galaxy SIII phones in the first 100 days. Interestingly enough, over 54% of participants were Apple users.
