Description
The concept was simple. VICE is already going around the world, collecting the best travel stories, inspiring a generation to go explore. Google is creating revolutionary tools improving the ways we connect, fly, book and search. VICE City Guides seamlessly connects VICE’s award winning content with Google’s powerful travel tools and information. Now content does more than entertain, it gives you the tools you need to explore. Whenever and wherever you are. From maps, to YouTube, video to written editorial, everything is connected and always with you. Travel has never been better.
Execution
We created 8 City Guides deployed bi-weekly on VICE's website and syndicated globally by VICE's international offices. Guides were featured on the VICE homepage and a dedicated City Guides hub and promoted via social media and co-branded banners.
Each guide includes
- Custom Google MyMap with VICE’s highly-curated recommendations
- Google Place Cards customized with VICE reviews and photography
- Mapped recommendations and neighborhood-specific interviews with friends of VICE
- An easy way for users to save the VICE Guides to their Google Maps mobile phone app for easy on-the-go access
- A new video series, ""Streets by VICE"" where we tour an iconic street in a given city, integrated with YouTube interactive Cards and Google Earth Studio
Outcome
The program has been a massive success. Here are some metrics.
- 112MM impressions at halfway point of program
- .40% CTR on digital display, with .52% from mobile vs VICE’s 09% benchmark
- 92% positive sentiment on video vs VICE’s 89% benchmark
- 80% pre-roll completions vs. IAB avg. of 70.5%
- 5:38 avg. time on page compared to the avg 2:38 VICE benchmark
- 16MM PR impressions including AdAge, Eater, Curbed, LAist, and more
