Description
WEED WEEK 2017 phone kiosks in New York City featured simple typography and a beautifully photographed joint filled with real weed. When the sun went down, the phone kiosks lit up and so did the joints.
Execution
This job was digitally printed on both the front and the back.
The front image is what was seen during the day, when the poster was not backlit. That image is "reflective"-- light reflects off of the front of the poster and one only sees what is printed on the front. At night, the image is "transmissive"-- the light a passerby sees is being transmitted from behind the poster, through the graphic. When that happens, the color from the graphic printed on the back of the poster blends with the color printed on the front and one sees the blended image.
For the backside, the graphic was printed "reverse" and that one featured the smoking joint. So when the kiosks lights went on, the black burned portion along with the glowing orang
